I am Sonic Truth but I'll remain anonymous so my diatribes can continue in E-luminations unabashed. I don't really want the thought police banging on my door at 4 in the morning  Wink

My name comes from a band called Sonic Youth and as I am no longer young I thought I'd take liberties with the name and adapt it a bit. I love music (I am an avid gig goer), reading, cooking (when I get the chance) and watching films. I like my football and although I am a Southend United supporter I also support and watch Truro City much more these days. I love the whole non-league vibe. It is proper football as it used to be.

I have been involved with the TUS for 27 years (CPSA) and have sometimes been more active than at other times. Lately circumstances have dictated that there is no choice but to get involved, I find I can't sit by and watch terms and conditions of colleagues be attacked.

I love cooking (when I get the chance)...

I've been trying my hand at cooking recently.....latest thing I made was a treacle tart.  It was very nice and I had fun making it (as did my little boy who loved kneading and rolling and what-have-you), but I couldn't help thinking that "I spent best part of an hour making something that was gone in 5 minutes, that I could have bought for 99p"!

Although I agree you could of bought it in a shop cheaper and already made, but I'm sure you wouldn't have the same satisfaction as making it yourself with your little lad  Undecided

"My name comes from a band called Sonic Youth..."

Bit louder than Travis, then.

As you're an avid gig-goer, c'mon then...what was your last gig? What was your best? Worst?

Sonic Truth:

"...although I am a Southend United supporter I also support and watch Truro City much more these days. I love the whole non-league vibe. It is proper football as it used to be."

I know what you mean! I think that Scottish football, outside of the SPL, is probably similar.

But I wonder, why Truro City? Not that's there's any reason why not. I'm so busy and because of the cost, the only matches I get to, nowwadays, are the occasions when my wife's team, Tranmere Rovers, are playing in the south-east. So, I went to Layer Road a few times before they closed it and I know what you mean by the 'non-league vibe'!

We went to Hornchurch a few seasons back, when they were drawn against Tranmere at home in the FA Cup; it was Rymans Premier v. League One. For Hornchurch, it was one of the biggest days in their history, but they still had a great non-league feel about them. Half the ground was still terracing; there was proper singing and chanting (some of it even clean) and the smell of hotdogs, onions, sausage-rolls and bovril filled the air, that chilly winter's day! I still couldn't understand what they were saying in the away end, but we got to appear (fleetingly) on the Match of The Day highlights that night - PROPER FOOTBALL!!

God bless,

Oh, absolutely!  In that case, it was a bonding thing more than just cookery.  But an awful lot of the time when I cook alone, the time it takes (not to mention all the clearing up afterwards!) just seems a little out of balance with the results.

Building a cupboard, or painting a picture, yes - there's an end result that lasts.  But food is a bit too ephemeral.
